The Deutschlandlied uses Joseph Haydn's majestic Emperor Quartet melody, one of the most celebrated tunes in Western music history, adopted as the German national anthem. On the steel tongue drum the steady quarter-note pulse and broad ascending phrases give it a noble, unhurried quality, the instrument's warm harmonics enriching Haydn's classical architecture. An excellent piece for developing consistent tone and steady rhythm.
